Today's post will have photos of us getting ready, our wedding party, family, our ceremony, and reception, along with the details and story of our special day. On Sunday, I'll be sharing my very favorite photos - our portraits - and talking about our first year of marriage.

I hope you enjoyed the 3290348239 wedding pictures! I was flooded with so many amazing memories going through these. We really had such an amazing wedding day! After hearing how stressful our wedding day would be from a lot of people, it was actually a breeze! Our wedding party was small (two siblings, two best friends), which made getting ready really quick and easy, plus we built in a lot of time to do things the day-of so that I wouldn't get stressed. I got my hair done with my sister Tessa and best friend Haley in the morning, then met up with my cousins and a couple of friends for lunch. I was shocked that we had enough extra time to go out to lunch! I was definitely glad to get a real meal in my stomach though because the rest of the day was a blur! I had done a makeup trial earlier in the week and not loved the result, so I actually had my friend Haley and cousin Abbie do my makeup for me and it turned out great! They're both so good at makeup, and it was nice to have it done in the bridal suite on our own time with products we owned.
Probably the biggest obstacle in our day was that it was absolutely sweltering hot! It was one of the hottest days of last summer crazily enough, and if you've ever been to the Midwest or South you know how humid it gets in July and August. However, there was not a rain cloud in site, which is what I'd been praying for since we booked our outdoor wedding the preview January. We did our first look and wedding party photos in the middle of the afternoon, and after only 10 or s0 minutes we were so hot and sweaty (glamorous, right?)! Fortunately, we had time to take a break inside to cool off and touch-up hair and makeup. We did family photos about an hour before the wedding, and then I ran inside to hide/compose myself.
Our wedding ceremony started at 6 and while it was still really hot out, we were in the shade in a beautiful setting. Behind the floral arbor where we exchanged our vows there was a hill that dropped off into a grove with a field of wildflowers in the distance, and it was absolutely stunning. I thought I had gotten my tears out during our First Look, but I had so much emotion bottled up inside that as soon as I stepped out of the front door with my dad and saw Trey out ahead of me I immediately started crying. Unfortunately, I've learned that I'm not a cute cryer seeing as all of the photos of me walking down the aisle showcase my ugly cry face (I conveniently left those photos out). Our wedding party walked down the aisle to John Mayer's cover of "XO" by Beyonce, and then I walked down the aisle to one of Trey's and my favorite songs, "All of Me" by John Legend.
Our ceremony was even better than I imagined, and it was short and sweet and not too sappy :) Because we knew it would be hot, we didn't play a song in the middle for a sand/candle/etc. type of thing, and our pastor wrote a simple, meaningful message that was a perfect fit for us. He tied in God's messages about love and marriage with Trey's and my relationship and strengths, and it was even better than I could have asked for. I have a copy of our pastor's message notes that I'll keep forever! My sister also read "Union" by Robert Fulghum. I'm including it below because I love it so so much.
You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes, to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making commitments in an informal way. All of those conversations that were held in a car, or over a meal, or during long walks – all those conversations that began with, “When we’re married”, and continued with “I will” and “you will” and “we will” – all those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe” – and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding.
The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things that we’ve promised, and hoped, and dreamed – well, I meant it all, every word.”
Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another – acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, even teacher, for you have learned much from one another these past few years. Shortly you shall say a few words that will take you across a threshold of life, and things between you will never quite be the same.
For after today you shall say to the world –
This is my husband. This is my wife.
After our ceremony, Trey and I immediate broke off to have a moment alone before the reception and also take some photos with our friend and photographer Jo. We spent about 20-25 minutes shooting the photos I'll share on Sunday while everyone enjoyed sangria and appetizers on the patio area. Once we joined everyone we ate the most amazing meal (although I could barely eat anything!), cried and laughed through toasts and other celebrations, and danced and visited with our friends and family the rest of the evening! I was honestly shocked when the DJ announced it was the last song because it flew by so quickly! They say time flies when you're having fun :)
We couldn't have asked for a better wedding day (or honeymoon trip), and are still so grateful to our parents for throwing such a beautiful, loving celebration for us. Thank you so much for reading, and be sure to come back on Sunday to see our portraits and what our first year of marriage has been like!
