My Go-To Basics (that I wear over & over)
wearing: cropped tee | high-waisted shorts | hair scarf | bracelets 1 & 2
A post about my favorite casual basics and staples came highly, highly requested on Instagram, so here we are! The older I get, the more I gravitate toward my basics and find myself wearing them over and over (and over) again. I’m to the point where I like investing in good quality basics too. I want them to be something I can wear repeatedly and want to love the fit. Not all of my exact favorite basics are still in stock, but I’ve shared brands and as many specific links as I can!
Tees
Let’s start with tees, because I love them oh-so-much. To be honest, I love my neutral, cropped tees. It never fails that I feel cute in them and they’re my go-to when “I don’t know what to wear.” My favorites are these baby tees (have the cropped in white and black) and these boxy cropped tees (wearing above).
I also highly recommend any of Shop with Belen’s tops! I have a couple of her long-sleeve tops, but have so many more on my wish list. The fit + fabrics are a dream.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed over the years, I’m also a huge fan of graphic tees, and especially band tees. There are another casual go-to for me and I’ve been slowly building my collection! I have graphic tees by several brands, but my favorite are Daydreamer band tees. They’re pretty pricey but I’ve gotten one on Poshmark and a couple through collaborations/on trade and have worn them all a crazy amount.
Denim
Ahhh, denim. We’ve always had a love-hate relationship, but this year I finally found jeans that fit just right, even without alterations. Talk about a freaking win. My denim checklist: fitted in the waist (noooo gapping in the back), and doesn’t stretch out by two sizes after 45 minutes. That’s all I want. These are my favorites that I wear on repeat (and that have replaced every other pair of denim I own)…
Madewell’s Curvy denim line is a God-send. They come in a full size run and are meant for us gals with a bigger hip-to-waist ratio (small waist, but some booty/hips). My cost-per-wear on these skinny jeans has to be pennies by this point. They’re worth every dollar! I’m waiting for the perfect pair of distressed blue skinnies to come along.
Levi’s ribcage, super high-rise fit is one of my favorite finds of this year! I’ve never been able to fit into Levi’s until I discovered these. They’re also great if you’re smaller in the waist but have a bit of curve. I wear these multiple times per week and the waist stays nice and fitted.
I just discovered the brand Rolla’s a few months ago, but now own two pairs of their jeans + my favorite denim cutoffs EVER. They’re nice and small in the waist too, and don’t stretch out too much! They’re also just really stinkin cute. This may be my favorite pair of jeans I’ve ever owned, and these are the absolute best cutoff shorts. A couple of notes on the shorts: They’re cute and young without your booty hanging out (praise be), but just an FYI on sizing - they do run a bit big.
Leggings
Yes, they get their own category because they light up my life. I’m fully a leggings-as-pants kind of gal and have zero shame about it. I will say…there are different categories of leggings… lounge/casual leggings, yoga leggings and compression leggings. I own all types and wear them for various activities, but today I’m going to focus on my favorite place to get my staple, high-waisted leggings that I wear for lounging/errands/travel. All of the pairs I have hit above my belly-button (long torso-ed gals cheer with me), are flattering, and are so comfortable. By far one of my favorite purchases of the spring/summer.
Sweats
Also a wardrobe essential in my book. If you don’t wear sweats around your house then idk if we can be friends ;)
These joggers are a game-changer, and you can’t beat the price. I usually don’t wear sweatpants outside of the house, but these are adorable with sneakers! Jo gave them to us on her bachelorette trip and they’re high-waisted and the softest sh*t you’ll ever wear. I also love the Aerie sweatshirts I have!
I also LOVE all of the loungewear I have from Project Social T (and all of their basics in general)! Their fabrics are all super soft, and they’re a great company…a percentage of every purchase is donated to charity.
sneakers
After years of searching, I’ve finally found a pair of white, everyday sneakers that I love. I can’t recommend this pair enough! They’re super flattering and elongating, and now that they’re broken in, they’re really comfortable too.
jewelry
Almost all of my jewelry is now from XO Hanalei. Not only is their jewelry cute as can be, but it doesn’t tarnish! It’s gold-filled, rather than gold-coated, so you get a lot of bang for your buck. I have a lot of their cute coin necklaces and layering necklaces, huggie earrings and hoops, and one of my favorite bracelets. You can use code JACYLENORE for 20% off :)
I’ve also worn this MantraBand cuff everyday for years now! These are one of my favorite gifts to give too.
still on the hunt for…
The perfect black jumpsuit. I feel like the right jumpsuit will be perfect for everything from a date night to photographing weddings. I just need to find it!
A non-distressed, oversized denim jacket. I have a denim jacket that I love and have worn countless times, but it has a lot of rips in it. Now I want to find the perfect non-ripped one that has an oversized fit.
My next pair of black leather ankle boots. I buy a new pair about every other year, and I’m up for my next pair this fall.
